Legal Question in Technology Law in California

Second Hand Sale among Private Parties

Last Christmas, I bought a second hand laptop computer as a present for my boyfriend from a co-worker. The co-worker assured me it was in perfect condition... but from the moment I bought it, I have had nothing but problems. After sinking more money into it to try and fix the problems, a technician finally told me that the motherboard is bad and needs to be replaced (the cost being much more than just buying a new one). I have had the computer for five months, never functioning properly. I moved onto another job, and the former co-worker will not return my calls or emails. I believe he knew of this problem when he sold it to me. What are my chances of getting my money back in small claims court?

Thank you so much for your help!

If you can convince the small claims judge of the facts, you have a good chance of winning. Copies of repair bills and estimates and the testimony of the technician would help.
