Legal Question in Technology Law in California

Internet Harassment

I am curious about how the law reads in relation to internet harassment. A friend of mine is being chased around from online game to online game, being threatened with a lawsuit because someone refuses to believe she and a recently deseaced cousing are not two, separate people. They are threatening to sue her for impersenation and mental cruelty, as well as take steps to blacklist her from ISPs in the US and Canada.

Re: Internet Harassment

Real world rules apply to the Internet. The Internet is not a separate place because it is always present within the same jurisdictions as the computers which are exchanging information. Therefore, if there are anti-stalking laws in the jurisdictions where: your friend accesses the Internet; the defendants access the Internet; or where the online game servers are housed, then it would be a matter of convincing the jury that the defendants' behavior was wrongful.

Have your friend email me and I will see if I can help.
