I would like to know what type of laws there are pertaining to sexual harassment and threats over the internet. Also what types of legal recourse I can take.

Re: Internet Harassment

This is like many other inquiries on this website relating to internet law. Acts, such as harassment, over the Internet are just the same acts as they would be if done by phone or mail. The internet is just another means to do it. The internet offers the opportunity to publicly "flame" the harasser, but short of that the remedies are basically the same as by some other medium. The difference is that new possibilities for mischief arise because someone can damage someone who is in another legal jurisdicition and there is not much recourse unless the damage is worth going to the other jurisdiction, hiring a lawyer, and litigating the issue.

If the harasser is in the USA and is doing this on the job, there is a possibility to use employment laws to your advantage. If so, repost under the employment law category and perhaps you can find an employment lawyer to help you.

I can tell you that most lawyers consider defamation and harassment cases something to be avoided like the plague unless there is a deep pocket defendant because otherwise the lawyer wonders how he will ever get paid.
