Legal Question in Technology Law in California

Use of people's names on personal website

are there any laws that forbid me to post someone's name on a personal website (such as aol or geocities)? I am not making sladerous comments - rather there is a postive comment about the person. Are there any laws against having their name - i am not providing any other information about the person... AND there could be hundreds of people by this same name....

There is no single answer to this question. It all depends upon the context in which you state a person's name. Every situation is different.

However, even a non-defamatory statement could have legal implications. For example, the Ninth Circuit recently found that listing the names and addresses of doctors who perform abortions can constitute a threat, and thus be unlawful.

You should contact an attorney to discuss the particulars of your language if you are at all concerned that there might be a problem.
