Legal Question in Technology Law in California
Privacy on the net
I e-mailed a complaint to someone regarding a tasteless advertisement that was featured on a website, and the person e-mailed me back. This person was not happy with my reply (I disagreed with the person respectfully), and they posted the entire email exchange with my email address/info on their website without my permission. Now I am getting e-mails from people I don't know who also say they will hack into my computer because my email had my IP address. I have a firewall, and I am not worried about the hack attempts; however, I am upset with the fact that my e-mail and info are out there on the internet for all to see.
Is this against any type of law?

Re: Privacy on the net
I am not aware of a case where this specific situation has been tested. I believe that the prevailing wisdom among the judiciary would be that your IP and email addresses are part of the information you gave in your message.
Of course, you could always sue under a copyright theory. This would be one way to seek to have the web site remove the message, as well as compensate you for actual damages. But you would have to act quickly because your copyright has to be registered before you can file suit. I recommend that you secure competent counsel immediately.
