Legal Question in Technology Law in California
Getting your name removed from a website
I've recently become the victim of Internet stalking. The stalker has since posted a libelous article on his blog about me. This is starting to get rather creepy as it's recently been updated with my place of employment and the geographical area where I work. How do I go about getting it taken down? I've contacted the company that provides this individual with dedicated servers, and they refuse to intervene. Also, what other legal action can be taken against Internet stalkers? This isn't the first time this individual has posted on their blog about me in a libelous context.

You need to get a restraining order. You can also sue this person for damages, though I can't tell from these limited facts whether you could win a worthwhile judgment or whether the defendant could pay it.
Feel free to contact me directly if you want to discuss this further.

Are you sure it's libelous? (i.e., FALSE ), rather than a matter of opinion, criticism, etc?
If so, hire a lawyer to sue for Libel, seek a restraining order/injunction, and brace for a long fight.
Otherwise, think about finding ways to counter the negative publicity with positive PR efforts on your own. But don't allow yourself to be baited into a "flame-war"... that's just bad for everybody.
People are good at seeing "sour grapes" for what they are... so before you go forward with a lawsuit, consider that by doing so, you make the statements even more public. Is it really worthwhile?
Can the defendant pay a judgment?
