Legal Question in Technology Law in California

Webcam at work?!?

I work for a company that contracts its services to other organizations. With our most recent contract came a clause that mandated a webcam be installed at our place of business. This broadcast is able to be viewed by the members of this organization over the internet from anywhere, and by anyone with them. This is very troubling to myself and co-workers, any response is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Webcam at work?!?

If I had a client who required a webcam be pointed at me while I worked, I would (a) think this was weird in the extreme, and (b) decline the business. Is it illegal? I don't know. I think individual employees at your company could bring suit for invasion of privacy, and they might have a chance of success, but they would also be risking their careers.

Not much to say about it. There are many offices that are just one big room with a whole lot of desks and half partitions so the boss can walk around and observe everyone. Sorry.
