Legal Question in Construction Law in California

I asked a surveyor to preform work. A misunderstanding caused a delay in billing conclusion. They were very insulting and rude. Now I cannot communicate with them effectively to conclude the business transaction. I want to go to another company as these guys are jerks who don't deserve my business. There is no contract. I dispute some points on scope of work. Do I have to pay them? They are in Nevada and our co is in California

Do I understand your question to say that they performed work on a construction project but now the issue is over billing and what you owe them? Keep in mind that if you're a contractor and they sue you to recover money owed to them and win, they could send the judgment off to the CSLB and your license would be suspended until it was paid. I would suggest you do your best to resolve that sort of dispute before it becomes an expensive legal battle.

If what you're saying is the work isn't complete and they have not contractually held up their end of the bargain, I would give them a short timeframe to "cure" and if they don't do so, then terminate the work. This is dependent, however, on the terms and conditions of your contract with them and what sort of project you're working on.
