Legal Question in Construction Law in California
bad contractor
we have 5 units in our condo, unit 1 and 5 have a leak, so we hired a contractor to redo the roof, and he said in order to do 1 and 5, he has to do all 1 through 5 because we all share a wall and our condos are next to each other. im in unit 3 in the middle, prior to this I have no leak. Now after $15,000 and he said it was all done, my roof is leaking, What is my rights? to have him fix this, does he has to repaint the ceiling after hes fixing the roof? and what about mold? I want to prevent mold so is he liable to replace the ceiling and drywall where the leaks are? thank you

Re: bad contractor
Based on the limited facts you provided, it appears that you may have a claim against the contractor for the defect and/or a warranty claim. If you are in the area and desire further consultation, please feel free to contact our office.
Re: bad contractor
The short answer is, "yes." Various contractors and/or the homeowners association are likely on the hook for repairing everything including the cost for you to move out, if necessary, during the repairs. Mold remediation, if it exists, can be very expensive. You can get relatively cheap test kits on the internet or at some home improvement centers. To really address the problem, you'll need an industrial hygienist.
Frankly, this problem is too complex for a homeowner to take on by himself or herself. This is a breach of contract and warranty action with possible insurance and HOA overtones. You've got to consult an experienced construction law attorney.
