Legal Question in Construction Law in California
I am building a carport on the side of my house without a permit, and the city is telling me to get one. I am wondering if I go ahead and finish it, what would be a worst case scenario to what they can do?

The very worst case scenario is that you could end up in jail. Pay the fee and get a permit.

Worst case? I can think of one even worse. The carport catches fire, your house burns down, and your insurance denies coverage because of the illegal addition.
