Legal Question in Construction Law in California

I have cancelled an agreement with a painting contractor for poor quality of workmanship. They replaced some sheets of siding and at the point where the roof and siding met the quality of work was very substandard. They have admitted that it was their fault and offered to repair the damage. Do I have to accept their offer, which I have no confidence that it would be correct, or can I hire a roofing company to do the repair and deduct the roofing repair expense from the painting contractor bill?

If it was in their scope of work you have the choice to let them re-do it, or have someone else re-do it at your expense. Only if they cannot correct the work after reasonable efforts can you bring in someone else at the contractor's expense.
