Legal Question in Construction Law in California

Contracts Content Disclosure Laws

Is there any laws that prohibit--name removed--general contractor from disclosing details (either orally or the actual hardcopy signed paper contract) to nosy inquiring neighbors?

Our GC who left us high & dry & unfinished...ironically is on--name removed--jobsite for our neighbors. We think it is possible they made him an offer for more money & knew our contract wasn't very well written....bought him off our job to work for them.

Isn't this illegal...if not it should be!

Re: Contracts Content Disclosure Laws

Without more information and background it will be hard for me to answer this question. It sounds like this could either:

1) Be perfectly ok under your circumstances as a freedom of speech issue; or

2) Possibly be a breach of contract and/or tortuous interference with contract issue. If the neighbors interfered with your contract with your contractor and this caused you damaged then you may have a claim against them. Also if your contractor left you "high & dry" and did not finish the job, then you certainly have a claim against him.

Please contact me if you wish to discuss.
