up front fee a contractor can ask for legal amount
What is the correct amount a contractor can ask for up front to do backyard work the job is only $4000.00 he is asking for $2000 up front

He can ask for $400. The law is 10% or $1000 whichever is LESS. Not only is this request illegal, it's not likely that this contractor is good at what he does if he is asking for 50% up front.
