Legal Question in Construction Law in California
I am a General Contractor and did some work for an individual. They paid my first bill of $3500.00, then basically fired me because my schedule was packed and I was not able to complete work fast enough for them. I submitted a final bill for $1500.00 and never received payment. I was then advised that they had issues with some of my work and backcharged me for the repairs and additional work. I was never paid for the original work, and not offered to return to do repairs. There is other work on my invoice that is not in dispute, but they are stating that the backcharge is more than my original bill. This was a verbal agreement. What are my chances in small claims court, since it is "he said" "she said" ?

Considering that as a licensed contractor you should know that a written contract is required, you should expect to lose.
