if I hire a roofing contractor in calif and they give a 2 year warranty contract on their workmanship. does the state require a longer warranty?
or impose a longer warranty than in my contract?

No. However, should a defect in the roof work result in other kinds of damage, such as water damage to other components of the structure, you may have a longer time to sue for that resulting damage than just the warranty period on the work itself. That would only apply, however, if there was some defect in the materials or installation work. Roofs don't last forever, and many kinds don't even last very long. So if it just wears out, say from sun exposure, there is no recourse to the contractor.
