Legal Question in Construction Law in California

Lien threat

I disputed a bill that was hundreds more than predicted by initial estimate, but after the threat of a lien, I paid the amount the contractor requested immediately and sent certified mail. They have not cashed the check in over a week, and I am nervous. Is there a better way than certified mail to prove I paid in a timely fashion. They are not returning my emails or phone calls.

Re: Lien threat

Electronic payment methods such as wire transfer, automated clearing house, credit cards, PayPal, etc. are quick and usually leave a good audit trail, but can be hard to set up for an occasional user. Big businesses use them all the time in addition to checks to move money quickly. Talk to an officer at your bank.
