Legal Question in Construction Law in California

It's already been six months since the final inspection and every 'change order' invoice were all paid in full with our contractor. However, there are credits that need to be refunded to us and after six months of not hearing from him I left him a message reminding him of our "credits". But instead of receiving a check from him, we are being billed for "additional work done" invoice contract balance. This does not make any sense because during construction, our contractor had always been so prompt in letting us know of any " work changes" and invoiced us accordingly. This is really upsetting, please advice.

It all depends on what the "additional work" was and whether it was authorized by you. You should start by sitting down with the contractor to, without admitting anything, review the entire job. It also depends on how much was/is involved.
