Legal Question in Construction Law in California
I want to replace an old leech field with a new "infiltrator" system. The old original was a 1960's perforated tar pipe and is completely gone. What do I need to do to get started and without a contractor?

Go to your county building department and find out what regulations and permits apply to your situation and what you have to do to comply.

Assuming you are in the unincorporated part of San Luis Obispo County, it would be a matter of county permitting and regulation. I'd start with the county Web site at http://www.slocounty.ca.gov/Page7582.aspx and then look at the documents linked to that page, including the homeowner's guide.
