Legal Question in Construction Law in California
rewarding employees of our customers
We are a small construction equipment company. We have recently made a sale to the equipment manager of a major construction company. He is very impressed with the product and would like to do all he can do to insure future sales with his company and others invovled with him. Can we reward him for his support and for futher contacts without finding ourselves breaking the law or company policy?

The first word that comes to mind is "bribery." While it may not be legally commercial bribery (look up and read the definition in Penal Code section 641.3) it comes a bit close for comfort. Wholly aside, it is probably unethical, and the client may resent it. In any event, if the value of the gifts is less than $100, that seems to take it out of the commercial bribery category.
