Legal Question in Construction Law in California
My son moved to Texas 2 1/2 years ago and is trying to buy a house. When he left CA he closed his credit union account and cancelled his credit cards through them. His new cards are too new and don't show enough credit history. The realtor says a parent can add him to their credit card as an authorized user and that then my credit history will show as his. He's not going to use the card and it will be send to my address instead of to him. After escrow closes, I can have him removed. Is this normal and could there be repercussions for me? My husband's credit was compromised in 1992 and it took about ten years (and lawyer fees) to get it cleaned up. So, he's very reluctant to have anyone else linked to our credit. We may be buying a new home in the next year or so and again are very concerned.

He probably got denied getting a loan with a low credit score since he had little credit to his name. The Realtor's advice is common to try and help improve someone's credit.
repercussions - they now can get a credit card and they're an authorized user. If they use the card they can rack up a debt for you on it and you're jointly liable.
