Legal Question in Construction Law in California

out of state contractors

Can an out of state contractor work in california without a california contracting license?

Is it true that an out of state contractor can work in california just as long as the contractor is registered with the secretary of state that he/she is working in california?

No. The out-of-state contractor my obtain a California contractor's license. If the out-of-state contractor is a corporation, it must also qualify to do business in California by registering with the Secretary of State.

An outside contractor cannot contract in California. An outside contract may do business in California if it meets conditions imposed by the Secretary of State and is involved in a joint venture with a contractor licensed in California and in good standing with the SEcretary of State. Good luck.
