Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

1980 Camaro Z28

I bought a Camaro Z28 from a dealer in So.Cal about 3 months ago. When I went to regester it I found I needed to have it smoged and also there were DMV regestration penalties on it from back in 1980 from the previous owner, not the dealer. Also I have spent over $800 in new parts not counting labor to get it to pass smog. Now I am told that it is the sellers responsibilty to transfer title and have it smoged, is this true and can I recoup the money I spent to get it to pass smog and for the dealer to pay past fees? Its a nice looking car but has just been a headache from day 1. I'm sure he was aware of the problems on this vehicle and sold me his nightmare. Thank you for your time and knowledge. Also I was led to beleive I had 90 days to regestar the car but the DMV said 30. Thanks again

It is the seller's responsibility to get the smog certification for the vehicle. . . You can try to recover from the dealer. . .

Good Luck.

Add up your damages. Try to get reimbursement from the dealer. If they dont cooperate report ot DMV and take them to small claims
