Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

30-Days

I just bought a car from private party. The woman said she had insurance and that it would be covered for the first 30 days that I owned the car but after that of corse it would be up to me to cover myself. I thought that that was standard.--when you sold a registered car to someone that it was covered for 30 days. Now I find out that she cancelled her insurance only days after she sold it to me-Whcih I understand if as long as she told them it would be active for the remainer of the 30 days since I had bought it--but she didnt--Is she allowed to do that? Does her word mean anything and would it hold up in court-I do have a witness who was with me when I bought the car and heard her say it.

Re: 30-Days

YOUR insurance will often cover a newly purchased car for a brief period, perhaps for the first 30 days, to give you time to provide the insurance carrier with the vehicle information. Maybe this is what she meant, because I would be surprised to learn that her insurance would cover you at all. Call your insurance company right away and have the car added to your policy.
