Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

When I take 5 days off from work for vacation but an airlines delays my flight for more than a day due to their reasons (mechanical issues, poor emergence handling, rejection of work after their work hours causing passengers waiting in airport for more than 12 hours and the airlines cancelled the flight and postponed it to next day), can I sue the airlines to request compensation of my time loss? Thanks.

For domestic US Flights, there are no US federal regulations that require any compensation for a delayed or cancelled flight. However, keep in mind that each airline may have a policy for compensating passengers whose flights are delayed or cancelled, and those policies may include compensations such as meals, hotel rooms, or phone calls. The airline may also arrange an alternate flight on another aircraft on either the same airline or with a different airline. These policies are either included with the paperwork associated with your ticket, or are available from an airline representative.
