Our tax accountant made a mistake on our 2005 estate taxes. The IRS caught the mistake and we are being asked to pay$ 14,000 dollars.
What accountability does the accountant have for his mistake?

Well, if you owed the money, you owed the money. He may be liable to you for some incidental things, like the interest or penalties you may have to pay. Call him. More people are reasonable and fair than not.
