Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

Agreement with Monitronics

I had an agreement with this company while living in California. It was a three year agreement. We were forced to Move to Nevada with a year left. The agreement was for an address in California. I called which I was told they would take care of the cancellation and then also wrote them a letter.. The agreement stated 30 day written cancellation. I recieved a letter back stating they needed a password??? Again that wasn't in the agreement. I told them I forgot the password because I never used it.. The agreement was specific that it was for the California address. It never implied or inidcated that if we moved this agreement woould follow. This agreement also requires equipment to be installed to do monitoring. Is this agreement still vailid even though we no longer live in California or the address that it states is being monitoried??

Re: Agreement with Monitronics

It depends on the language of the agreement, what your letter states, and what the services are for.

Generally speaking, however, I doubt a password would inhibit the cancellation of the agreement. If you expressed your desire to cancel, and the agreement permits cancellation, I would argue that you effectively cancelled.
