Legal Question in Consumer Law in California
My Apple iMac computer wasn't working. So I took it into the Apple Store in Santa Monica, CA. They told me I needed a new harddrive and that they would replace it for free. I said, great, but I told them I needed the old drive back to perform data recovery. They said no problem and reassured me I'd get the old drive back. On the work order request they wrote in 3 places that customer wants drive back. I was so concerned about it, that they Apple rep hand-wrote on the top of the paper that customer wants drive back. I went to pickup the computer and drive and of course the drive wasn't there. They had sent my drive back to their warehouse. After numerous calls, the store manager said the drive could not be found. Apple was obviously negligent.
Now I lost an entire years worth of photos, files, videos, etc. I lost all the 2009 videos and photos of for my 2 year old baby, Zoe. Priceless.
What do I do? Sue Apple? What's this worth?

I would write to Steve Jobs directly, and ask him to personally locate your missing drive! This is one of the risks one takes when one doesn't regularly backup the hard drive. Portable backup drives are quite inexpensive these days as are online backup services.
Perhaps you could recreate some of your files by asking friends and/or relatives for copies of the electronic photos you might have sent them. Good luck!
