Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

Appointment Cancellation Fees

I met a nutritionist in a Starbucks a

few weeks ago. Since I am also

interested in nutrition we started

talking and she suggested to meet

her some time soon so that she can

tell me more about eating. She gave

me an article that says she offers

free consultation.

I wasn't really interested in it so I

didn't call. However, she called me

many times until I answered the

phone and we scheduled an

appointment. There, after asking her,

she said she charges 250 dollars.

AFter letting this sink in I decided to

cancel it anyway.

The day before the appointment was

a holiday so I called her in the

morning of the day of the

appointment to cancel.

There she told me that if I don't

cancel 24 hours in advance she will

charge me the full 250 dollars.

I had NO idea about her cancellation

policy because she never told me

about it and I haven't signed

anything or read anything that

mentioned her cancellation policy.

Now, my question: Do I have to pay

these 250 dollars??

What if I reschedule and then cancel

two days in advance? That should be

fine, right?

Thank you for your time and support.

Sincerely,

Chris

Re: Appointment Cancellation Fees

Assuming all you wrote is true, relax - you owe her nothing.

Tell her you charge a $300 idiot fee to all idiots.
