Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

i asked a friend who used to be a car salesman for ford (about 8 years ago) if he knew anyone that would buy my 2008 Bently, he gave me a phone number in anaheim, ca i contacted the company and made the deal . I just recieved a letter from the friend that i owe him $3500 for commission from the sale of my car. what do i do?

Tell him that since he never mentioned anything about a commission, did nothing but give you a number of a company he did not work for or with, never mentioned that he could or did earn commissions from the sale of cars, did not even know that he still worked for a car company if he does, etc., there was no verbal contract, meeting of the minds, consideration, or any other aspect of a contract and so yo owe him nothing. On what basis does he claim he is owed anything? Why would you have sold the vehicle for te price you did if you knew he would be getting a commission?
