Legal Question in Consumer Law in California
Attorney Inactivated, Won't Return Calls
I retained an attorney to help with a consumer law matter (car dealer fraud). Checking the state bar on-line verification system, I found that his license is now inactive. He does not respond to e-mail or phone calls. This case has not been resolved. Does he need to refund my retainer? What should I do now with regard to the case? If I hire another attorney, does this one need to turn over the paperwork for the case, and discuss the current status of the case?

Re: Attorney Inactivated, Won't Return Calls
I suggest that you find another attorney as soon as possible. The old one has a duty to cooperate and return your files. In the meantine, your suit against the dealer continues. If interested please contact me at 805/641-6600.
