Legal Question in Consumer Law in California
Auto dealership fraud
I traded a car in to a dealership in Riverside calif. The dealership took my trade-in and told me they would make the monthly payment every month until the car was sold. I had the dealer write a statement to that effect, and sign it. I just found out that the dealer pulled up stakes and left and has stopped making payments on the car I traded in. The finance company is holding me responsible. I went to the car dealership and discovered it is now owened by someone else. The new owner told me there had been several other people in looking for the owner, with the same complaint as mine. I can't afford an attorney, what do I do from here? I did get information on where the owner is now working. Am I responsible now for paying for both cars, the one I bought AND the one I traded in??
Thank you!

Re: Auto dealership fraud
I am handling an identical situation for about 30 persons who were victimized by Ventura KIA. While there is not much that can be done against the finance company, you might look to the successor company. In any event I am interested in your story. Re: Auto dealership fraud
You are responsible. However, call the DMV, file a complaint and ask them for the name of the bonding company. file a claim with the bonding company. You may get some of your money back.
