Legal Question in Consumer Law in California
My auto finance company is charging me a much higher fee per late paymwnt than what my contract states. Can they do this?

You should check through all your paperwork to make sure there isn't something in the fine print that allows the amount they are charging, but ultimately, no, they cannot charge more than what was agreed.
