Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

I bought a car in California from a licensed dealer. I paid cash for the car. The dealer never sent my paper work in and then went out of business. He essentially committed fraud. The car also has a lien holder. Can I go after their bond?

The short answer is yes, you can go after the bond. The more complicated answer is that you generally need to make a claim on the bond and then file a lawsuit if they bond company doesn't payment. Also, there will probably multiple claimants on the bond and that means you might only get pennies on the dollar.

I believe the bond info can be found on the DMV website and you should also file a complaint with the DMV.

You should also contact a consumer rights attorney for a consultation.
