Legal Question in Consumer Law in California
I bought a new Toyota. I gave them a credit card for the down payment. Two months passed and they never charged my card (as I later found out). During that two months, I went to Berlin. I had my purse stolen in the streets there and had to cancel all my credit cards, etc. The dealership tried to charge the card. I thought they already took the money prior to giving me the car. Now they are threatening to take the car back or police action. I never told them I would not pay, but asked that I have until I return from Berlin (1 month) to write them a check or give them another credit card. I do not like how they handled this and am now reluctant to pay. I live in California. They listed my down payment as a "trade in".
