breach of daycare contract
I opened a home daycare in california and the parents signed contracts. I found out later that I was in violation of the law with my business, and put it on vacation to sort out my license. In that time, one family quit on me with no notice, claiming the contract is void since my business was basically illegal. Is that true? Is the contract null since I wasn't licensed when they signed it?

Daycare businesses must be licensed, and to enter into an agreement on the basis of you having a license probably does give grounds for recission.

Let them go and get your business affairs in order. There will be other clients.

It is my opinion that they are right. They can rescind a contract if you could not legally provide the services contracted for.
