Legal Question in Consumer Law in California
Used car buyer protection
I purchased a used car two days ago. 1993 Mitsubishi Eclipse w/a rebuilt Japanese engine from a private individual. I paid cash. The paperwork has been completed but not taken to DMV. I did not sign an ''AS IS''. I was assured the car was in great running condition. I was on leave for the weekend so I decided to drive home to Arizona. Three hours into the trip the engine caught on fire. I was able to put it out quick but now the engine is a complete loss. I had to be towed and now I do not have transportation back to the base in San Diego on Sunday. The engine does have a transferable 50,000 mile warranty and only 15,000 actual miles, but I believe the person I bought the car from should refund my money and take care of the car however he wants. I need to know my rights. Thank you.

Re: Used car buyer protection
it sounds like you may have a case. However, if the seller was a private party, then you should sue in small claims court. Do this ASAP
