Legal Question in Consumer Law in California
Used car buyers rights?
We purchased a used van on Friday, nothing was disclosed to use by the used car dealer of any automotive defects. Van was sold As-Is. While driving to buy gas for the van there was a loud clunking and jerking while coming to a stop. It is Monday, my husband took it the his mechanic, who stated the Transmission is bad, there are also loose bolts connecting from the van to the transmission. We called the used car dealer and asked politely if there is anything they could do? They stated bring it down, we will look at it, and any repairs we make we will have to pay for. Do we have any rights?? Urgent response needed.

Re: Used car buyers rights?
On the car, there should have been a buyers guide which has 2 boxes. The first has the words "AS IS" next to it and the 2nd, "WARRANTY". If this guide had the AS IS box checked, then there is very little you can do. If the box was not checked, then you have a good case despite the fact that AS IS may appear on the contract or on any other paper you may have signed.
