Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

I had my car detailed by Grisantis Custom Detail Shop

He put swirl marks and streaks on my paint and marks on my upholstery. I wrote a letter to him asking for my $190 back that I paid for the original job to help pay for the damage he did to the paint and upholstery. His response was that he had talked to his attorney, I was harassing him and he would see me in small claims court.

My Question:

If I take the Detail Shop to small claims court how do I decide on what amount to sue for--I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT DETERMINES THE DOLLAR AMOUNT I ASK THE COURT TO AWARD ME.

I asked in writing for him to return for $190 I paid him for the original detail. Can that be changed?

I got an estimate of $250 to remove the swirl marks the Grisanti Detail put on the paint $60 more than the $190 I asked him to return for the original detail. Can I ask for the $250 even though I have asked him in a letter to return my original payment to him for $190

The estimate to do the inside detail again to see if they can take the marks off the upholstery included a discount price of $75 and a regular price of $125. Can I ask for $125 rather than the discounted price of $75

How about extra costs like court fees, personal cost to prepare for court etc

Your will have to probve in court that you are not unreasonable in your impression of the quality of work the detailer did. You better have good photos that show unacceptable work. Then you can recover court costs as well as costs to repair the damage.
