Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

Car insurance liability

We have a difficult family matter. My mom who is 75 was pressured into buying a 60k Hummer for her son but the car is in my moms name under her insurance. The son has the car and will not return it and he is not paying for the insurance. He has had a couple of accidents already and she cannot continue to afford the insurance payment for this Hummer. She is not concerned about her credit but if she dropped the insurance coverage on the Hummer and just kept it on her own car, what is the liability exposure? She does not have a home and most of her monies is in an IRA account.

She could get a locksmith or a duplicate key and re-take possession of her car and then sell it.

Re: Car insurance liability

She needs to get the car back immediately. If she has insurance on it, she will be protected, but she needs to make sure he stops driving it. Once she gets it back, she should sell it.
