Legal Question in Consumer Law in California
Check for $1000..illegal to cash?
On an item that was purchased but later returned, the rebate for $1000 still was sent to me. Is it illegal for me to cash. What is the worst that can happen?

The cops show up and arrest you for GTR (Grand Theft Rebate). And fraud and burglary: Entering the premises of a store with the intent to commit another crime, namely fraud, constitutes burglary. All of these are felonies.
Other things could possibly happen, ranging from your getting away with it to your just being sued for the money back, but the risk you would be taking is that of the aforementioned arrest, and the consequent conviction, jail time, probation, police record, etc.
