Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

Getting out of a contract

i am having an issue with a martial arts school. I went there and signed a contract to take some lessons. I had to leave town due to work issues and told them i was not able to come. At the time i signed the contract i didn't get a copy because is was going to change pending on the days i wanted to go. Now the person says i signed the contract and even though it was changed over e-mail and verbally i am bound to it even though he never gave me a copy of it. Without ever taking a class and without ever giving them a voided check to bill and with them not giving me a copy of the contract what are my options. thank you

Re: Getting out of a contract

You may have some ability to get out of the contract. You should start with the Department of Consumer Affairs. Also, look at California Civil Code 1812.80. You may need to talk to an attorney and should find someone familiar with this area of law. It is a bit different than a lot of contracts.
