Legal Question in Consumer Law in California
contractural obligation
If a garage door company installs a new door and the panels fail, are they obligated to make it right if the mfg. of the panels goes out of business? The panels had a 15 yr. warranty but developed cracks at year 9. Garage door co. offered only to give us a discount on new door panels. They admitted that the panel failure were the fault of the manufacturer.

Re: contractural obligation
If it was a manufacturer's warranty, the installer is not liable -- unless it did something to hasten the failure or knew before their installation that such panels had a history of premature failure.
