Credit Card Hold
We checked into a hotel and they held an $80 security deposit without telling us. We did not authorize this - and there is nothing on their website or receipt that says anything about a security deposit. Is this legal?

You've obviously never stayed in a hotel before.
The $80 deposit is for "incidentals," for example room service, pay per view movies, and phone calls. Sometimes if you tell the front desk clerk you won't be using any incidentals they won't run your card, and they'll just keep the phone and PPV turned off. (Who cares, you'd be nuts to pay hotel prices for phone calls.) Sometimes they will let you put down cash as a deposit. If your credit is bad, and therefore all you have is a debit card to check in with, expect to get your $80 back in a week or so.
If you didn't bid for the room on Priceline, you probably paid double what you should have.
