I am a daily customer to a store by my house and yesterday i ran out of gas at the store. I walked home to get gas can and to the gas station and then back to the store and when i got back the store had my vehicle towed. Can they do that and is there something i can do?

Next time you need to tell the store owner why you will be parked there for some time. The owner probably has no idea as to owns the car and it likely was there for some time. Since you were not shopping at the store, it seems to be a legal tow, but you can see if the store owner might ask the tow truck operator to reduce some of the charges, but I doubt either one will.
