Can he get deposit back?

My friend bought a car and stupidly

(in my opinion) made fake pay stubs

to get it financed. Now even though

the dealership told him to do this, the

bank bank called them on it and the

dealership wanted to car back. He

has returned the car but the

dealership wont give back the deposit

of $1000. Now I know that he made

fake stubs, but isn't the dealer

required by law to give the money

back if the car was returned.
