Fedex damages

I sent a package via Fedex, which Fedex in transport destroyed

the contents. Now the guy I sold the item for $1400 want's his money back from me. Fedex said to me since I doidn't insure the pakage ''to bad'' but will pay me only $100. The package had allover the ''Handle with care'' It's obivious Fedex ignore that writing. It seams to me that Fedex is forcing customers to pay for insurance . Do I have any option in small claim curt?

Re: Fedex damages

If the buyer didn't pay for insurance, too bad.

Fedex does not force anybody to buy insurance.

Shipping insurance, like any other insurance, is a wager. Buy insurance and you are betting $5 to win $1400 that your package will get lost. By not buying insurance, your buyer made a $1300 bet that the package would not get lost.

This assumes that you offered the buyer insurance and they didn't buy it.
