Legal Question in Consumer Law in California
Where to file Small Claims
I reside in San Diego and purchased a car in Los Angeles and I need to sue the dealer in small claims court.
Normally the suit is filed in the county where the incident took place, or where the defendant resides.
However, it is my understanding, that there are a couple of exceptions to this rule. One of these exceptions is that if the incident involves the purchase of vehicle which has been purchased through a finance contract, the suit can also be filed in the county where the buyer resides.
Can someone advise me if this is correct and can I file a claim in San Diego County for the car I purchased in Los Angeles?
Thank you.
