Legal Question in Consumer Law in California

Filing a claim against Fed-ex (loss of property rights, etc)

I am an artist who uses a porrtfolio for job

interviews, etc. Currently I am unemployed and

this portfolio ( a columnation of over 6 years

creative work) is an invaluable asset to my job

search!

Over 85% of the work in my portfolio can NOT be

replaced (ie, i no longer have access to the work,

client or employers cease to exist)!

Fed-ex recently lost my portfolio and I am now

required to file a claim for loss. It is impossible to

put a value on these items and already, this has

affected my job search potential.

I need advice on filing my claim, how much value

is this worth, is there a limit, etc...?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Re: Filing a claim against Fed-ex (loss of property rights, etc)

I handle a lot of cargo claims, and I am sorry to hear about your situation. What you need to do to get the claims process going is contact FedEx in writing and tell them your package was lost, and that you are claiming for the value. Give them a number for the dollar amount of damages. There are very strict deadlines (sometimes only a few days) to make your claim, so do it immediately if you have not done so already. Unfortunately, FedEx has very strict limits of liability, and unless you paid extra for increased liability, you probably will not be able to recover very much. Good luck with your claim.
