Legal Question in Consumer Law in California
Fund Raising Idea
My Soroptimist Club (a 501c4 entity) has the following fund raising idea: We would sell 300 tickets at $25 each during a 3 month time period. After all have been sold, we would draw 1 ticket a week for 30 weeks. The weekly winner would get $100 and his ticket would be added back in with the others so he may win again. At the end of 30 weeks, the club would net $4500. The question has arisen as to the legality of this idea. We do not want to get into trouble, just raise money to give back to our community. Is there a specific wording that we should put on the tickets....''opportunity'' or ''donation'' or ? Please advise.
