Legal Question in Consumer Law in California
Fundraiser
My daughter's school raised funds for a playground 18months ago. The owner/principal indicated it was urgent and that some government department would be there shortly and may have to close the playground, as it was unsafe. 18 months later (and 3 fundraisers for other projects later) there is still no playground. A lot of parents are upset about this.
I am leaving the school and want my $100 plus donation back. I asked and the owner said ''we used that money to pay other bills''. In the meantime, she has a new RV and a new car but the kids are still playing on an unsafe playground.
Can I get my money back?

Re: Fundraiser
Anyone who solicits donations for a non-profit, charitable, or educational purpose in California is responsible for seeing to it that the money goes for the purpose for which it was raised. You could try contacting the police, the district attorney's office, and/or the state Attorney General.
Re: Fundraiser
In addition to what Mr. Stone said, you can file a suit in small claims court. Furthermore, you should contact all the other parents who feel as you do, to also contact the governmental agencies and to file in small claims court.
